Two vital signs were detected in the rubbles of Dongqi Secondary School in Hanwang town of Mianzhu, Sichuan. That was quite unexpected because seventy-seven hours has passed since the disastrous earthquake. Two students, a boy and a girl were found trapped. They were in fair physical condition, but the boy was more severely injured.
As the rescuers responded, the boy insisted, “Save her first,” showing chivalry of a gentleman, and the girl said, “No, save him first. He’s more badly hurt,” showing the unique care and tenderness of a lady despite of the danger. The rescuers explained that who to save first depended on the actual situation.
Finally, the first to come out was the sunshine girl. She faced the crowd with brilliant smile, and she did not forget to wave hand and say, “I’m OK, don’t worry.” One hour later, the little gentleman came out too. Even when he was loaded to an ambulance, he playfully asked the rescuers for a coke, a cold one.
When facing such a trauma, those two students, who were still childlike, surprisingly showed such calmness. More importantly, they are willing to give the chance of life to their companion. Didn’t they represent the hope of our country’s tomorrow?
